Who said proms are just
for high schoolers?
You always wanted to meet that special someone at the Prom? Well, on April 30, everyone in our community will have the opportunity to live that paramount of high school graduation, as Prom Night festivities kick off! Sponsored by HOMES (Help Ourselves and Others through Mutual Expression and Support) and Twenty-something, "The Prom" dance welcomes all gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgendered persons, and friends. Come alone to meet that special someone, or bring that person along!
The event will be held on Saturday, April 30, from 8 pm to 12 midnight at the Archwood United Church of Christ, 2800 Archwood in Cleveland. Tickets are $5 in advance and $6 at the door. Advance purchase tickets are available at the Cleveland Lesbian-Gay Community Service Center, 1418 West 29th St. at Detroit; Gifts of Athena, 2199 Lee Rd. in Cleveland Hts.; and the Clifton Web, Clifton & W. 115th St. in Cleveland. Prom colors are blue, silver and white. Formal dress is optional.
"The Prom" will have talented performers abound for guests' entertainment, featuring D.J. Debra. Among other notables to appear are Tierney Alexander and Glenn Powers.
For the sweethearts and friends in attendance, instant photos and portrait packages
may be purchased at the Prom from Portrait Photography. And as no prom would be complete without flowers, boutonnieres and corsages will be available from "An Affair to Remember" florist at the event.
Motorists can find the Archwood United Church of Christ by exiting I-71 at Pearl Rd., travelling south and turning right on Archwood.
Prom proceeds will be used to benefit the Out Voice Foundation, a non-profit organization which educates the general public as well as lesbian, gay, and bisexual Ohioans about the needs, conditions, and rights of lesbian, gay, and bisexual persons. The foundation supports such projects as state-wide anti-bigotry training for Ohio lesbian, gay, and bisexual leaders and a speakers bureau and video library for those who wish to learn about and discuss needs, conditions, and rights of lesbian, gay, and bisexual Ohioans. HOMES is a gay, lesbian, bi and transgender discussion and social group, meeting Tuesday nights at the Center. Twenty-something is an educational, support, and social program for lesbians, gays, and bisexuals, ages 18-29, meeting Friday nights at the Center.
So whether you're coming to meet that special someone or bringing that person along, see you at the Prom!

Rainbow Wranglers plan rowdy Roundup weekend
Dust off your Dingos and iron your jeans, it's time for the Third Annual Spring Roundup. Sponsored by the Rainbow Wranglers of the Cleveland City Country Dancers, the event will draw country dancing enthusiasts from throughout Ohio and the Midwest for a non-stop, three-day, bootscootin' dancing frenzy April 15-17.
The Roundup will kick off Friday with a Trail-In Dance at U4ia Niteclub featuring Washington D.C. country singer Dwayne Calloway. Saturday, Cleveland's favorite comic diva, Karen Williams, will host a Barn Dance at Numbers Niteclub, with entertainment also provided by the Rainbow Wranglers and the Cincinnati Stompers. Sunday will close out the weekend with the Trail's End Dance at Ohio City Oasis featuring California country western singer Sid Spencer.
An unusual highlight of the Spring Roundup will be Dance Around Cleveland, a Saturday afternoon tour of Cleveland via Lolly the Trolley. Planned are selected stops at Cleveland landmarks with impromptu
dancing. The tour will end at Keys with a Country Cabaret and performances by local singers.
Proceeds from past Roundups have benefited lesbian-gay community groups and services. This year's Roundup will benefit the Hotline of the Greater Cleveland Lesbian-Gay Community Center, which provides assistance and counseling to over 1200 callers a month.
Most club events will require a charge at the door. Because of limited seating the Dance Around Cleveland tour is by advanced reservation. A special weekend package is available for $20, which includes the Trail-In Dance, Country Cabaret, the Saturday night Barn Dance, a Sunday brunch at Ohio City Oasis followed by line dance lessons, and the Trail's End Dance. Out of town guests can receive special rates at the Edgewater Inn in Lakewood.
For more information about the Roundup, call Gerry Wheeler at 671-0717. For bar locations, check the Chronicle Resource Directory.
